Activities
Campers at CCL will have the opportunity to sign up for up to five activities in which they will attend Monday through Friday. CCL offers between 18 and 21 classes each session. If you want to take water skiing or ropes course, you must sign up for them in advance on a first come, first serve basis.
WATER SKIING
Skiing across Big Crystal Lake is an awesome experience. Learn to hydro slid, water ski, or wake board behind our 2 state-of-the-art Ski Nautique® Ski Boats. Never skied before? No problem, let one of our ski instructors give you some pointers to help you get up and going in no time. Think you already pretty good? Well get some extra air with our Sky Tower® and Fat Sacks®. No matter what level you’re at, we can make water skiing a fun and challenging activity. Remember that water skiing is signed up in advanced for an additional cost.
CANOE AND KAYAK
This class is another camper favorite. CCL has a whole fleet of sit-on-top kayaks and Mohawk Canoes. In this class you learn the basis paddling strokes so that you can power your vessel of choice around Little Crystal Lake. Highlights of this class include trips to the famous "Pebble Beach" and battles against the skin diving class. Athletes will have a chance to compete in our triathlon event (kayaking, running, and swimming) and other relays.
SAILING
Utilize our new sailing fleet at CCL. Sailing is one of our most popular classes. In sailing you learn the parts of a sailboat and some helpful nautical knots and then you’re off to voyage across Big Crystal for an afternoon of fun with your friends. Advance sailors might get to sail one of our Hobe® Catamarans.
ARCHERY
Archer's paradise! Our archery range has been considered one of the top in Florida. In 2004, CCL built a beautiful pavilion to provide sun-shaded shooting. Learn to shoot at different distances, practice sky-shooting, and shoot at Will, our moving target.
NEWSPAPER
Campers in newspaper class get a few special privileges during class. Instead of the constant supervision of a counselor, campers get to walk around camp and collect articles, interviews, and camp shout-outs. In this class you can let your creative juices flow as you produce the daily newspaper for the camp to enjoy.
ARTS AND CRAFTS
Need a break from the sun? In this class you get to hang out in the arts-and-crafts room and enjoy some music as you craft your heart away. Fun activities include making hemp necklaces, bead jewelry, tie-dye, wax candles, painting, and clay making. This is definitely a fun and chill class.
HIGH ROPES
CCL is home to one of the nicest ropes courses in the Southeast. We are home to a 4-major piece course set up by Alpine Towers Inc. Campers learn the importance of safety, trust, communication, and teamwork while climbing to heights of 50 feet in the air. High Ropes is the only class that occupies a 2-period block to give campers lots of time to climb. Our ropes course is specially equipped to challenge climbers of all skill levels. Never climbed before? We can help you overcome any climbing nerves and soon you can be standing on top of our Alpine Tower and looking around over top the tree line.
HIGH ROPES
Our course is home to the trademark Alpine Tower, an hourglass shaped tower that 6 climbers can conquer at a time. Climbers can challenge themselves on such elements as the "Fire Crackers" (2 suspended tree beams covered in rock holds) or "Missing Link" (a huge suspended cargo net missing a section of netting) or "Corporate Ladder" (a suspended ladder with increasingly spread out spokes). On the Alpine Tower, camper can also participate in team climbing or blind-folded climbs.
HIGH ROPES
The other elements of our ropes course include the "Tree house" a 50-ft high tree house with elements such as the "Three Amigos" and a partner-trust element and camper favorite named the "Code Brown Bridge." We also have a 50-ft high Carolina Climbing way that features 6 different climbing faces including a heavily inverted run and a run using real granite grips. Campers also get to end their session soaring through the air on our 30-ft Swing.
KINDERGARTEN
Ever wanted to relive the days of kindergarten? Hang out in the air-conditioned Dining Hall and do such activities as finger-painting, recess, nap time, popsicle stick artwork, and head up 7up. If you’re a good boy or girl maybe you can get all A+s in Kindergarten.
OUTDOOR ADVENTURE
In outdoor adventure, you will learn the skills to surviving in the outdoors. In this class you will go on hikes, learn to build fires, and learn how to set up camp. Let our instructors point out some poisonous plants and fruits to stay away from. This is a great class for those who love the outdoors or might just want to see what it’s all about. Highlight for the class is an overnight camping adventure at Mosquito Lake and cooking over an open fire.
WATER SPORTS
This is a fun class for those who like play games in the water. Here you can play some intense games of water polo, sharks and minnows, shark break, Marco Polo, and “grease the pig” (lets just say it has to do with a greased watermelon floating in the water). Basically the class just chooses the game they want to play and then the rest is just for fun.
ANYTHING GOES
The class name gives some insight into what you might do in this class. Well you can’t do anything but you do get to do some pretty cool games. Things you might do in this class include human foosball, beach towel water balloon volleyball, hula-hoop kickball, and slip-n-slide.
FISHING
Get your pole and let’s get to ‘Sketer Lake to catch dem fish! Fishing is an easygoing class where you get to practice your fishin’. You will catch lots of our brim and maybe even some bass. If talking to your friends and casting a line sounds fun then sign up for fishing class
SKIN DIVING
In skin diving class you will get a chance to do some snorkeling around the different lakes of Camp Crystal. Using your mask and flippers, you will get to search for the "Golden Toilet", sunken canoes, and Native American artifacts. This is a fun class if you like to swim and hang out in the water.
MAGIC
Learn awesome card and coin tricks in magic class. Hang out inside the Dining Hall and talk to your friends as you practice your newest slight-of-hand. Want to make cards change colors or magically move though the deck, then this is a great class to take. You can even perform your newly learn trick in front of friends. They will be begging you to teach them your magic knowledge.
P.I.B.A.
Put It Back Alive (P.I.B.A. for short) is a class where campers get to explore the diverse ecosystems of Florida, and meet the amazing animals that inhabit them. As the name implies, we find the animals in their natural habitats, and then returning them back where we found them.
DANCE
Campers get to let their creativity shine as they choreograph and rehearse a dance routine over the course of their week at camp. Girls and boys of all ages get the chance to learn different styles of dancing ranging from jazz dance to break-dancing. Some classes have even included swing dancing and gymnastics in their routines. The campers then get to show off their hard work to the entire camp at the big dance Thursday night.
